What You Need to Start Your Journey as a Content Creator
Becoming a content creator doesn’t require a studio full of fancy equipment. In fact, all you really need to start is a phone with a camera and a lot of patience. Content creation is about creativity, consistency, and learning as you go. Let’s dive into the essentials you’ll need to begin creating content and turning your ideas into reality.

1. Start With What You Have: A Phone With a Camera
Your phone is your most powerful tool for creating content. I recommend the iPhone, but it doesn’t have to be the latest model. The key is ensuring your phone has a good camera and plenty of storage. Why storage? Content creation takes up space, especially with videos and high-quality images. If your phone runs out of storage, it can halt your progress. Consider purchasing extra storage through Apple, your cell phone provider, or using external options like Google Photos or a USB drive.
Pro Tip: Always have backup storage! Repurposing or reposting saved content is a great way to save time while keeping your platforms active.
2. Invest in a Laptop for Editing and Organization
While your phone handles the recording, having a laptop makes editing and organization much easier. I recommend the Surface Pro—it’s been my go-to for years, even before I became a content creator. It’s versatile and powerful, perfect for managing and editing content.
3. Must-Have Tools and Apps for Success
Here are a few apps and tools that I use daily:
- Notion: Perfect for organizing ideas, creating schedules, and staying accountable.
- ChatGPT: My virtual assistant for brainstorming content ideas, building a productive schedule, and drafting outreach emails to brands.
- Canva and CapCut: These tools make creating visually appealing and engaging content simple. From designing Pinterest pins to editing videos, they help you stand out.
4. Stay Organized and Back Up Your Work
Content creation is a long game. Make sure to back up your work so you can reuse or repurpose content across different platforms. Being organized will save you time and stress while keeping your creative flow alive.
