Starting Over: Overcoming Limiting Beliefs One Step at a Time

Creating this blog is one way I’m working to overcome my own limiting beliefs. Each post is a step toward breaking down walls of self-doubt, fear of failure, fear of being seen, and insecurities. I didn’t always struggle with these beliefs. But after my father’s passing, it felt like a part of me died too. That version of me is gone, and I’ve decided I don’t want it back. Instead, I’m rebuilding—this time with a foundation rooted in self-improvement, kindness, and resilience.

At times, this journey has felt lonely, even when my partner was by my side. But I’ve realized that loneliness can be a sign of transformation. My focus has shifted, and though limiting beliefs still whisper doubts into my ear, I face them one day at a time. Why? Because I believe the eventual is shaped by the actual. The work we put in today shapes our tomorrow.

Identifying and Overcoming Limiting Beliefs

Limiting beliefs are sneaky. They show up as:

  • Self-Doubt: Am I even capable of this?
  • Fear of Failure: What if I try and fail?
  • Fear of Being Seen: What will people think of me?
  • Insecurities: I’m not enough.

If you’ve ever felt these, you’re not alone. Here are techniques that have helped me and may help you too:

  1. Emotional Regulation: Learning to sit with your emotions instead of reacting. Try deep breathing, journaling, or taking a walk.
  2. Sound Healing: Use calming frequencies or meditation music to soothe your mind. It’s a simple way to reset.
  3. Ice Baths or Cold Showers: They’re uncomfortable but powerful for building resilience. Facing that physical challenge can reflect strength back to you.
  4. Daily Reflection: Write down one limiting belief you experienced and how you worked through it.
  5. Support Systems: Create small systems that help you stay consistent, like setting alarms for self-care moments or using a planner.
  6. Grounding: a self soothing technique that helps keep you in the present and helps reorient you to the here-and-now and to reality

The Power of Discipline, Systems, and Structure

Here’s the truth: there are no shortcuts to overcoming limiting beliefs. (Trust me, I’ve tried. And yes, I’ve cried over it—many times, SMH.) But discipline, systems, and structure can make the process manageable:

  • Discipline: Show up for yourself daily, even when it’s hard. Progress is in the consistency, not perfection.
  • Systems: Create routines that support your growth. Maybe it’s morning affirmations or weekly self-check-ins.
  • Structure: Build boundaries and habits that help you thrive. Clear structure reduces decision fatigue and helps you focus on what matters.

Ask yourself:

  • What limiting belief is holding me back right now?
  • What small action can I take today to challenge it?
